thanksgiving dinner on a budget
If you have never made Thanksgiving dinner before and if you also need to do this on a budget you're in the right place. This dinner for beginners includes turkey, two veggies, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce and apple pie! I originally posted this in 2021 so grocery prices have gone up a bit, but if you shop at the right time, everything in this dinner can be purchased on sale leading up to the holiday. You can still do this for around $100.
I am updating this post now, for 2024 Thanksgiving. My mom watches the turkey prices like a hawk! It's less than two weeks before the big day and she's been holding out on buying a turkey. She knows the local Market Basket will have their sale at $.59 per pound for turkey and that's when she'll run to the store. Mom's are awesome, right?
You can still, in 2024, get a 20-pound turkey for about $12!!
The video below is the entire video of every recipe! I've also posted individual blog posts and videos for all the recipes in case you're just looking for side dishes and apple pie! Click any link in the Thanksgiving Series Essentials below to take you to the full recipe.

Need Some Appetizers before thanksgiving dinner?
The snacky munchy things we serve around the holidays are just as important as the big meal itself, right? Even though we probably shouldn't eat food before the big meal, we eat a ton of food before the big meal. Or is that just my family? Before we stuff ourselves with stuffing, we munch on things like cheese and crackers, shrimp cocktail and some warm, crunchy toasties. I will often make warm shrimp & gorgonzola dip with crostini which is one of my all-time favorite appetizers and also make-ahead friendly!
- Holiday Appetizers: Phyllo Cups FIVE WAYS!
- Affordable Walmart Cheese Platter (about $20!!)
- Stuffed Mushrooms w/Sausage, Cheddar & Panko
- Nana's Weird Hot Dog Appetizer (the kids will love this!)
- Honey Butter Bourbon Shrimp
- Brown Sugar Bacon Sticks Brushed w/Maple Syrup
- Apple Brie Crostini w/Pecans & Honey
- Crispy Thai Pork Toast (make-ahead friendly)
- Crunchy Baked Kale Chips (great for vegetarians)
